Job summary

A family-owned service company in Muskegon seeks an experienced Diesel Technician to join its team. The successful candidate will provide technical guidance, diagnose, and repair various vehicle systems. Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Diesel Technician.
  • Must obtain and maintain State of Michigan HDT repair certifications.
  • ASE certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to technicians.
  • Diagnose and repair various vehicle issues.
  • Communicate with service advisors for additional work needs.
  • Engage with external manufacturers and warranty contacts to maximize reimbursement of services.
  • Receive annual training from Navistar & Cummins.
  • Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicate with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
  • Road test vehicles when required.
  • Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Ensure that vehicle is kept clean and notify service advisor immediately of any changes to the vehicle's appearance or condition.
  • Keep shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintain and be accountable for all dealership‑owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place and in the same condition as when received.
  • Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right‑to‑Know
  • Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Report any safety issues immediately to management
  • Perform other tasks as assigned
