Join the West Michigan International (WMI) team as a 2nd Shift Diesel Technician, where you will be part of a locally owned group of companies renowned for providing exceptional service in the full-service truck dealership industry. With five locations across West Michigan, including Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Muskegon, WMI offers a dynamic work environment with extensive service departments, complete body shops, parts delivery, mobile service trucks, towing, and outstanding customer service.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair brake, air systems, electrical, HVAC, drive train and transmission, engine and exhaust, suspension, and steering issues.
- Engage with external manufacturers and warranty contacts to maximize reimbursement of services.
- Receive annual training from Navistar & Cummins.
- Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examine assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicate with service advisors immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road test vehicles when required.
- Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisors.
- Ensure that vehicles are kept clean and notify service advisors immediately of any changes in the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Keep the shop area neat and clean.
- Maintain and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place and in the same condition as when received.
- Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know.
- Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Report any safety issues immediately to management.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Diesel Technician.
- Must obtain and maintain State of Michigan HDT repair certifications.
- ASE certification preferred but not required.
