Job summary

Local Diesel Shop is seeking a Diesel Technician to diagnose and repair heavy-duty diesel trucks. You will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair various systems to ensure safety and performance on the road.

The role requires 2–3 years of experience in semi-tractor maintenance, a valid California driver’s license, and the ability to operate diagnostic software and a range of shop tools. Candidates should be able to document repairs and work with a team.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • 2–3 years of experience in semi-tractor maintenance/repair or equivalent training.
  • Must have California driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and diagnostics to troubleshoot issues and ensure proper operation.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment.
  • Identify worn parts and replace or repair as needed (engines, transmissions, brakes, etc.).
  • Use diagnostic software to troubleshoot charging, brakes, suspensions, and A/C systems.
  • Maintain repair records and document time and parts used.

Job description

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Shop Owner the Diesel Technician will work on getting our customers back on the road quickly and safely. Technicians will be performing diagnostic trouble shooting and repairs including but not limited to cooling system, electronics, air systems, engine, transmission, clutch, steering, brake and wheel, hydraulic systems, seals, differentials, etc. Must have some knowledge of heavy-duty diesel mechanics and diagnostics. Must document all time, materials, and work performed on repair orders. Must be able to make repair recommendations, take direction when needed, and have a positive work behavior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to troubleshoot issues and ensure vehicle in proper operating condition.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance services.
  • Identify worn and damaged parts (all parts to include major components such as engines and transmissions), repairing, adjusting, or replacing as needed.
  • Trouble shooting with diagnostic software – charging systems, brakes, suspensions, A/C system Verify vehicle performance by adjusting controls and systems.
  • Maintain truck records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Maintain safe and organized work area; keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Follow all state and federal vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards; follow company policies, procedures, and safety and EPA regulations. Must use all safety equipment necessary for the job.
  • Maintain current knowledge of job and technical skills by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • 18 years of age.
  • 2-3 years of experience in Semi-Tractor maintenance and repair and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skill/Ability: Attention to detail and willingness to work, perform a variety of mechanical repairs or preventive maintenance on diesel trucks and equipment using a variety of power and hand tools; establish and maintain effective working relationship[s with co-workers and suppliers; and maintain California driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities and good driving record.

Education

High school graduation, or its equivalent, or sufficient education to read and write, plus experience in mechanical repair work, preferably at least 2-3 years of experience working with or for a mechanic; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Certificates & License Required

A Valid Class C California Driver’s License is required.
