Stotz Equipment in Escondido, CA is seeking a Shop Tech I / Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain a range of equipment from small engines to agricultural machinery. This role is primarily shop-based with occasional field support, requiring strong mechanical skills and customer-focused service.

Ideal candidates have 2–3 years of experience on diesel and gas engines, own a full set of tools, and possess basic computer skills for diagnostics and documentation.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years in mechanical work on small engines, diesel and gas engines, and hand-held components.
• Proven ability to assemble, perform maintenance, and execute basic diagnostics on equipment.
• Must own and maintain a complete set of professional tools.
• Basic computer skills for diagnostic and documentation purposes.
• Ability to operate vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work flexible schedules and respond to after-hours calls as needed.
• Professional, customer-focused demeanor with strong service skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance on customer and dealer-owned equipment.
• Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high standards of quality.
• Use diagnostic tools and technical manuals to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
• Make necessary repairs accurately and effectively.
• Engage with customers as needed to explain repairs, provide updates, and answer questions.
• Complete work assignments primarily in the shop environment.
• Follow direction and guidance from the Service Manager or Shop Foreman as required.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace and proper care of tools and equipment.
