Job summary

Cogent Analytics is seeking a Diesel Service Tech/Mechanic for 2nd shift (3:30 PM to Midnight) in the St. Louis, MO area. This union position offers wages via Machinist District 9, with benefits including Health and Welfare, Vision, Dental, Union Pension, paid vacation and weekly pay.

Responsibilities include reading work orders, diagnosing diesel systems, performing maintenance, and test-driving trucks after service. Tools are required, and CDL/HazMat certifications earn extra pay.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of diesel/heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience.
• Advanced knowledge of a vehicle, its electrical system, and diesel engine mechanisms.
• In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operating mechanisms.
• Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment.
• Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Keen attention to detail.
• Basic knowledge of computer systems; MaxxTraxx knowledge preferred.
• Proficiency with diesel engine diagnostic software.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.
• Good interpersonal and collaboration skills.
• Must furnish own tools.

Responsibilities

• Consulting the customer and reading work orders to evaluate tasks.
• Preparing work plans after scoping out issues.
• Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting results to offer solutions.
• Inspecting vehicle systems including suspensions, steering and exhausts.
• Repairing or replacing transmissions, brakes, engines, and related parts.
• Conducting field visits for emergencies or breakdowns.
• Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge performance.
• Completing oil changes, coolant service, AC evaluation, and brake checks.
• Maintaining parts inventory and serviced-vehicle records.
• Ensure work area is organized and meets waste disposal standards.
