Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) seeks a part-time instructor for the Diesel and Powertrain Servicing program starting January 2026. The role involves teaching assigned classroom and shop courses, developing curriculum, and leading related program activities in a dynamic technical education environment.

The instructor will manage classes, maintain shop safety and equipment, support student success, and collaborate with industry partners.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in Diesel/Automotive Servicing or a closely related field (Heavy Equipment Repair / Agricultural Equipment Repair).
  • One of: seven years of work experience with Diploma, or five years with Associate Degree.
  • At least one year of work experience in last five years, or two years of teaching Diesel/Automotive Servicing coursework in last five years.
  • ASE Master Technician for Medium/Heavy Truck (T1–T8) certification must be possessed or obtained within 2 years.
  • Standards of Teaching Excellence: Understanding Students, Classroom Management, Planning/Organization, Content Mastery, Teaching Methodology, Assessment, Professional Contributions.
  • Essential Technology: Email systems, voicemail, Microsoft Office/Google.
  • Self-Service or other student information systems, Blackboard Ultra, tech-based instructional delivery, emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor/evaluate course effectiveness.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in the program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the program and assist in recruiting and marketing MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification and stay current in field.
