Schedule: Monday-Friday | 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Interstate Power Systems is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our Lincoln, Nebraska team on second shift. If you have experience working on Freightliner trucks, Detroit Diesel engines, Allison transmissions, Cummins products, and other heavy‑duty equipment, we want to hear from you.

In this role, you'll diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel‑powered vehicles and equipment while supporting a safe, efficient, and productive shop environment. We're looking for a technician who takes pride in quality workmanship, enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, and can work independently during evening hours.

What You'll Do
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on heavy‑duty trucks and equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmission, and Cummins‑powered equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance services including oil changes, brake inspections, tire service, and fluid checks
  • Conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections and identify needed repairs
  • Utilize industry‐leading diagnostic software and tools to resolve engine and transmission issues
  • Document repairs, maintenance activities, and parts usage accurately
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize repairs and maintain shop productivity
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Stay current on evolving diesel technology, diagnostic systems, and manufacturer updates
What We're Looking For
Experience
  • 3-5+ years of diesel technician or diesel mechanic experience
  • Strong background with Freightliner, Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmission, and Cummins products preferred
Technical Skills
  • Experience using diagnostic software such as:
    • Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL)
    • Cummins INSITE
    • Allison DOC
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, drivetrains, electrical systems, and heavy‑duty vehicle components
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities
Certifications & Education
  • ASE Certifications (T2-T8 series) preferred
  • Manufacturer certifications are a plus
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Technical school or vocational diesel training preferred
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver's license required
  • CDL Class A or B preferred, but not required
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to stand, bend, and work in a shop environment for extended periods
  • Must provide personal hand tools (specialty tools supplied by Interstate)

Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in a service shop environment with occasional outdoor work. Team members may be exposed to noise, moving machinery, fumes, and varying weather conditions. Adherence to all safety policies and procedures is required.

Occasional overtime and weekend on-call rotation may be required based on business needs.
