Job summary

Interstate Companies Inc. in Butler, WI, is seeking a skilled diesel technician to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy‑duty trucks and equipment. You will work in a fast‑paced shop with a focus on quality repairs and customer communication.

The role requires 2+ years of diesel experience, ability to read schematics, and familiarity with OEM diagnostic tools. CDL preferred; physical work in a shop setting is required with standard safety protocols.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience working on diesel trucks or heavy equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with diesel engines, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
• Experience with OEM diagnostic tools preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy‑duty diesel trucks and/or equipment.
• Repair/replace major components including engines, transmissions, turbos, and differentials.
• Use diagnostic software (Cummins Insite, Detroit Diagnostic Link, OEM tools).
• Complete service documentation for repairs, parts, and compliance.
• Communicate repairs and recommendations to customers and internal teams.
• Follow all safety standards (OSHA, DOT, company protocols).
• Maintain tools and equipment for daily operations.

What You’ll Do

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy-duty diesel trucks and/or equipment.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience: 2+ years working on diesel trucks or heavy equipment
• Strong mechanical aptitude with diesel engines, electrical systems, and diagnostics
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals
• Experience with OEM diagnostic tools preferred
• Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred)
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in shop conditions

Bonus Points:

• Diesel tech certification or ASE (T2–T8)
• Experience with Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, or Mack
