Job summary

XPO is seeking a Diesel Mechanic in Illinois to perform routine maintenance on heavy-duty diesel equipment and trailers. You will diagnose issues, repair or rebuild systems, and ensure compliance with DOT and EPA regulations.

A strong welding and basic tools skillset, plus a valid license, are required. The role offers a Monday–Friday schedule with first shift hours, uniforms provided, tool allowance, and comprehensive health benefits from day one.

Qualifications

• 2 years of tractor/trailer inspection and repair experience or a technical school degree with heavy-duty maintenance certification
• EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS or equivalent)
• Valid driver's license required
• Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC) and mechanical abilities
• Basic set of heavy-duty trailer/tractor tools
• Basic computer skills for service records and maintenance logs
• Brake inspection qualification per FMCSA regulations 396.25
• Vehicle inspection qualification per FMCSA regulations 396.19
• Availability to work days, evenings, nights and weekends

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on class 6–8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment
• Access equipment areas to perform inspections and maintenance tasks
• Repair or rebuild systems and components as needed
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues and perform repairs
• Follow DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and related regulations
• Conduct safety inspections and document findings
• Maintain proficiency with tools and tech to boost productivity
• Move trailers on-site with a hostler in all weather conditions
• Record job times and parts on repair orders
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles and keep work area clean and organized
• Interact with operations and shop management
