Job summary

Metallus is seeking a four-year Mechanical Maintainer – Mobile Equipment Apprentice in Canton, OH. The apprentice will learn diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of heavy mobile equipment including locomotives, in shop or field settings.

Starting at $33.40 per hour with increases to a top rate of $38 plus a $1 trade premium. Benefits include a tiered health plan, vision and dental, 401K after 120 days, 10 holidays, and educational assistance after one year of service.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required; 1 year of experience on heavy mobile equipment or completed locomotive repair training.
• Preferred: 2+ years on heavy mobile equipment or completed locomotive repair training.
• Candidate has a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Receive work assignments, drawings and sketches for diagnosis and repair of heavy mobile equipment.
• Analyze drawings and schematics to determine tools and procedures.
• Work in shop or field as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on mobile equipment.
• Operate cranes and heavy equipment for lifting and delivery.

Hourly Rate:

Starting at $33.40 per hour

Wage increase every 1040 hours, based upon passing level evaluation.

Top rate (A-rate Journeyman) $37 plus an additional $1/hour trade premium.

This is a position for a four year Mechanical Maintainer – Mobile Equipment Apprentice, with continued employment as a Mechanical Maintainer – Mobile Equipment after the apprenticeship is completed. Employees in this position are responsible for but not limited to the following:

• Receive work assignment, instructions, drawings and sketches for diagnosis, repair, and preventative/predictive maintenance of heavy mobile equipment to include locomotives.
• Analyzedrawings, sketches, schematics, diagnostic equipment, planworking procedure, and determinetools and equipment needed for the completion of assigned work.
• Work in the shop or field as required.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.
• Perform preventative & predictive maintenance on mobile heavy equipment. Mobile heavy equipment consists of both diesel & gas power plants, fans, blowers, mechanical power transmission, pumps, hydraulic components, electrical systems and other mechanical components.
• Troubleshoot, dismantle, clean, inspect, rebuild, repair, replace, install, assemble, adjust, align, and lubricateheavy mobile equipment and related components.
• Operateoverhead electric crane and mobile equipment to lift and transport materials.
• Operateheavy mobile equipment for pick-up and delivery.
• Performmiscellaneous work such as filling out standard forms, lubricating equipment, rigging parts & equipment for movement or lifting, and keeping tools, equipment and work area clean and orderly.
• Could workstraightafternoons, midnightsor swing shifts.

Minimum requirements include:

• High School/GED and 1 year of experience working as a mechanic on heavy mobile equipment or completed a trade/vocational school on locomotive repair.

Preferred experience includes:

• High School/GED and2+ years’ experience working as a mechanic on heavy mobile equipment or completed a trade/vocational school on locomotive repair.
• Candidate has current and valid driver's license

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to climb and work at heights of10 feet
• Ability to lift 75 pounds at one time, 50 pounds multiple times a day
• Ability to operatetrucks or motor vehicles
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures
