Job summary

XPO is seeking a Diesel Mechanic in Phoenix to service class 6–8 diesel equipment, trailers, and related assets. You’ll perform routine maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs to minimize downtime and keep operations running smoothly.

The role requires 2 years’ experience or a diesel tech school diploma, EPA refrigerant certification within 90 days, a valid driver’s license, and flexibility for day/evening/night/weekend shifts. Excellent benefits and growth opportunities offered.

Qualifications

• 2 years of tractor/trailer inspection and repair experience or tech school cert.
• EPA HVAC Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE/MACS or equivalent).
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Basic welding skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Basic hand tools for heavy-duty maintenance.
• Basic computer skills.
• Brake inspection qualification per FMCSA 396.25.
• Vehicle inspection qualification per FMCSA 396.19.
• Available for days/evenings/nights/weekends shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on Class 6–8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing gear.
• Inspect and maintain equipment, including work in/on/under components.
• Repair or rebuild various equipment systems.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues and perform repairs.
• Comply with DOT, EPA, OSHA rules and safety documentation.
• Conduct safety inspections and maintain documentation.
• Maintain proficiency with productivity-enhancing tech.
• Move trailers on site and operate a hostler in all weather.
• Log times and parts on repair orders; operate specialized tooling.
• Ensure a clean, safe, organized work area; coordinate with operations.
• Interact with shop management and operations.

• Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends

Preferred qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent work‑related or military experience
• Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades
• Previous or current ASE certifications
• Experience with trailer repair, diesel engine system diagnostics and preventive maintenance for tractor technicians
• Able to diagnose and repair vehicle air conditioning systems

• Monday – Friday operation
• Afternoon Shift, 2:00PM-10:30PM

What you’ll do on a typical day

• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of class 6 through 8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment
• Access any of the equipment to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under part of the equipment
• Repair or rebuild all or parts of various equipment systems
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and component issues and perform repairs accordingly
• Abide by DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other rules and regulations
• Conduct safety inspections on equipment and prepare safety documentation as needed
• Maintain proficiency with equipment and technologies that enhance productivity
• Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather
• Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
• Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized
• Interact with operations and shop management

Diesel Mechanics are required to

• Frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift more than 75 lbs.
• Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
• Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
• Walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate‑controlled and may be slippery
