Job summary

XPO is seeking a Diesel Mechanic in Oregon to maintain and repair class 6–8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment. You will perform inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs, ensuring compliance with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and company standards.

The role offers second‑shift hours (2:00pm–10:30pm) with a tool allowance, uniforms, health coverage from day one, PTO, holidays, 401(k) with match, and education assistance. Prior experience and relevant certifications are valued for advancement.

Qualifications

• 2 years of tractor/trailer inspection and repair experience or technical school certification.
• EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification within 90 days of hire.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Basic welding and mechanical skills are needed.
• Basic hand tools for heavy‑duty maintenance are required.
• Basic computer skills are needed.
• Brake inspection qualification per FMCSA 396.25 is required.
• Vehicle inspection qualification per FMCSA 396.19 is required.
• Willingness to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on class 6–8 diesel equipment and trailers.
• Inspect equipment and perform necessary maintenance, including under-vehicle work.
• Repair or rebuild parts of equipment systems.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues and perform repairs.
• Adhere to DOT, EPA, OSHA and related regulations.
• Conduct safety inspections and document results.
• Maintain proficiency with tools and technologies to boost productivity.
• Move trailers on site using a hostler in all weather conditions.
• Record job times and parts on repair orders.
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles.
• Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized.
• Interact with operations and shop management.

What you’ll need to succeed as a Diesel Mechanic at XPO

• 2 years of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair or a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance
• Obtain EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS or equivalent)
• A valid driver’s license
• Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC) and mechanical skills
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance
• Basic computer skills
• Brake inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25
• Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19
• Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends

Preferred qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience
• Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades
• Previous or current ASE certifications
• Experience with trailer repair, diesel engine system diagnostics and preventive maintenance for tractor technicians
• Able to diagnose and repair vehicle air conditioning systems

• Experienced Technicians can earn up to$42.48/hour including Master Certificationand shift differential.
• 2nd Shift, 2:00pm-10:30pm Monday - Friday

What you’ll do on a typical day

• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of class 6 through 8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment
• Access any of the equipment to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under part of the equipment
• Repair or rebuild all or parts of various equipment systems
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and component issues and perform repairs accordingly
• Abide by DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other rules and regulations
• Conduct safety inspections on equipment and prepare safety documentation as needed
• Maintain proficiency with equipment and technologies that enhance productivity
• Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather
• Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
• Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized
• Interact with operations and shop management

Diesel Mechanics are required to

• Frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift more than 75 lbs.
• Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
• Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
• Walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
