Job summary

Ames Construction is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered heavy equipment used in highway and industrial construction in Belle Glade, FL.

You will perform preventive maintenance at 250-, 500-, 1,000-, and 2,000-hour intervals, troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, and ensure safety compliance. A CDL and strong manual-reading ability are preferred.

Qualifications

• 10 years of experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and heavy construction equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Valid driver's license; CDL may be required for some positions.
• Ability to read service manuals and repair documentation.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, transmissions, and drivetrain components.

The mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.**Essential Duties and Responsibilities*** Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, and drivetrain components.* Perform preventive maintenance services, including 250-hour, 500-hour, 1,000-hour, and 2,000-hour service intervals.* Conduct equipment inspections and troubleshoot mechanical issues.* Maintain and repair heavy construction equipment such as: + Excavators + Dozers + Wheel loaders + Articulated haul trucks + Skid steers + On-road trucks* Perform oil changes, fluid checks, and routine maintenance tasks.* Fuel equipment and maintain accurate fuel logs.* Ensure equipment complies with safety and regulatory requirements.* Complete maintenance records, repair documentation, and work orders.* Coordinate with operations and project teams to minimize equipment downtime.* Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.**Qualifications*** 10 years of experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and heavy construction equipment.* Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.* Experience working on CAT (Caterpillar) equipment preferred.* Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.* Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.* Valid driver's license required.* Class B CDL with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements may be required for some positions.* Ability to work flexible schedules, including day or night shifts when necessary.* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.**Physical Requirements*** Lift and carry heavy tools and components.* Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.* Stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.* Safely operate service trucks and shop equipment.**Preferred Qualifications*** Technical training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field.* OEM certifications (CAT, Cummins, etc.).* Welding and fabrication experience.* Construction industry experience.Ames Construction is an equal opportunity employer.
