Job description

Join to apply for the Diesel Mechanic role at Waste Industries.

Utilize expertise in diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on Diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles to maintain GFL's fleet in safe and road-ready condition.

Essential Functions

1. Diagnose and repair Diesel and CNG trucks, including engines, electrical, propane, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
2. Lead inspections of brake systems, engine components, emission systems, steering, wheel bearings, and other critical parts.
3. Provide guidance and mentorship to level B and C mechanics.
4. Prioritize repairs for efficiency and timely work order completion.
5. Review mechanical write-ups and coordinate repair schedules.
6. Perform DOT and brake inspections on all vehicles.
7. Complete reports, work orders, order parts, and perform administrative duties.
8. Ensure safety compliance and maintain a safe work environment.
9. Interpret electrical and diagnostics schematics.
10. Participate in training and development to enhance skills.
11. Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Education, Training, Experience, and Certifications

• Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and related regulations.
• Brake safety certificate and 609 A/C system certification required.
• ASE certifications preferred.
• Ability to interpret detailed schematics and manuals.
• Effective communication skills across organizational levels and with customers/vendors.
• Proficiency in diagnostic software and computer literacy.
• Class A or B CDL preferred or willingness to obtain within six months.
• Minimum of 5 years of diesel/CNG maintenance experience.

Physical and Mental Demands

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds and pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds.
• Stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance as required.
• Visual and auditory acuity for detailed tasks and safety.
• Operate trucks and equipment as needed.
• Use of computers and related devices throughout the workday.
