Overview

Pay Rate: $26.28-$32.85 per Hour

Summary:

A Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of all equipment, including but not limited to the following machines: Wheel loaders, forklifts, material handlers, and help with plant maintenance when needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Repair and replace damaged or worn parts in a timely manner to support deliveries.
  2. Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and various hand tools.
  3. Adjust points, spark plug gaps, valves, distributors, fuel injection, and carburetors.
  4. Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
  5. Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  6. Maintain and repair gasoline, diesel & natural gas-powered equipment & trucks, including raising equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  7. Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose any defects.
  8. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper function and performance, and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
  9. Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  10. Keep detailed records with time spent, materials used, and parts ordered.
  11. Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment & calibration devices.
  12. Examine parts for damage or excessive wear.
  13. Consistently maintain all safety precautions, using all safety gear and protective equipment.
  14. Utilize proper safety techniques and equipment when necessary.
Employee Relations:
  1. Work effectively with co-workers.
  2. Proactive in alerting management of any unsafe act or condition to prevent injuries.
Global Responsibilities:
  1. Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position.
  2. This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs.
Qualifications:
Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), minimum Class B preferred.
  3. Air brake certification preferred.
  4. Knowledge of repair on components of heavy trucks and equipment including suspensions, hydraulics, drivelines, electrical systems, brakes, and engines.
Experience:
  1. Minimum 2 years-experience in heavy truck repair and maintenance.
  2. Hydraulic experience preferred.
  3. Diesel engine technician experience required.
Skills/Abilities:
  1. Operate industrial power and hand tools.
  2. Ability to adapt to changes and procedures.
  3. Use effective written and oral communication skills.
  4. Perform the job safely by demonstrating full awareness of his/her surroundings.
  5. Ability to drive standard and automatic transmission trucks.
  6. Ability to drive heavy trucks and operate equipment such as forklifts and end loaders.
Working Conditions:
  1. Operation within a fast-paced environment.
  2. Noise level is usually moderate, but can be high and requires personal hearing protection on occasion at job sites, plants, and laboratories.
  3. Work indoors and outdoors in all types of weather.
  4. Work may occur on construction sites with uneven ground conditions.
  5. Local travel required.
Physical Requirements:
  1. Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  2. Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  4. Must be able to operate buttons, levers, and other controls located on various equipment.
  5. Must be able to maneuver in and around our plants, yards and jobsites as necessary.
  6. Move/lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  7. Move/lift at least 100 pounds occasionally.
