Job Description
Diesel Mechanic
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Perform maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs on company vehicles (cars, vans, diesel trucks, forklifts, etc.) and equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded manner.
Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs maintenance and repairs of the company facilities and company vehicles and equipment as assigned.
- Performs preventative maintenance that comply with manufactures specifications.
- Diagnose equipment and vehicle problems and discuss needed repairs with management.
- Update inventory of necessary parts, supplies and materials for repairs and routine maintenance.
- Participate in safety training and remain up to date on repair techniques.
- Update maintenance and repair records; performs preventive maintenance on all building, equipment, and vehicles as assigned.
- Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections to ensure safety and readiness of company equipment.
- Assists in completing road tests (CDL and non-CDL) of new employees as needed.
- Comply with DOT regulations related to CMV drivers.
- Provide snow removal and salt-spreading for the facility, parking lot and sidewalks for the company.
- Responsible for providing excellent customer service to all customers, whether internal or external.
- Attend all scheduled meetings and conduct oneself in a professional manner that is supportive of management.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe and secure work area.
- Responsible for safekeeping of all company property.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Assigned other duties as the job requires.
Education And Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
- Five years of vehicle maintenance experience required to include truck, diesel and forklift.
- Fleet maintenance management software (Dossier Systems, Cummins Insite) experience preferred.
- A CDL Class A driver’s license preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Must be able to safely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and lift or move up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Must be knowledgeable in methods, techniques and procedures involved in maintenance repairs and replacement.
- Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment with accuracy and speed.
- Must have repair experience with forklifts.
- Must be available on-call in emergency situations, off-shifts and weekends as needed.
- Must have own work tools that will be used on-site for work purpoeses.
- Must have a valid, active CDL driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Must be able to pass forklift safety test.
- Must be able to work on ladders and a lift cage.
- Must be able to pass company required testing in addition to all DOT requirements.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Must be able to read and understand the English language.
- Must be able to complete appropriate paperwork relating to repairs and safety guidelines.
- Must be dependable and trustworthy.
- Must be a team player and demonstrate positive work behaviors and attitude.
- Must be professional in interactions with various staff levels.
- Must be detail oriented.
Additional Information
This position requires a self-motivated, high energy individual who is able to work quickly, accurately and effectively with a sense of urgency about getting work done in a safe manner while maintaining a high level of quality service.
This position involves strenuous work requiring standing, sitting, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pivot twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling and balancing. Must provide own work boots (safety-toed required). Typical work shifts start as early as 10:00am Monday-Thursday and 8:00am on Friday, but could be earlier and must be flexible regarding changes in work schedule and response on-call as operations and needs change.
