Our client is seeking a Diesel Mechanic responsible for providing mechanical, repair, maintenance, and related services to customers. The role requires a thorough understanding of truck and trailer repair processes, shop techniques, and operation of shop equipment. The Diesel Mechanic reports to the Shop Supervisor and may receive instructions from lead mechanics or technicians.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize customer satisfaction by delivering quality work, service, and timely job completion, maintaining professionalism with customers and colleagues.
- Assist with complex mechanical repairs on trucks and trailers, covering systems such as engine, electrical, drive train, tires, steering, suspension, and refrigeration.
- Perform vehicle inspections per DOT standards and address deficiencies.
- Execute routine and complex fluid, filter, electrical, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement tasks on trucks and trailers.
- Inform the Supervisor of issues encountered during repairs and assist in training other mechanics.
- Utilize measurement tools and shop equipment safely and effectively.
- Manage inventory, parts, and tools, including stock counts and reordering notifications.
- Contribute to shop efficiency improvements and safety practices.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and maintain tools in good condition.
- Adhere to safety protocols and OSHA requirements, using protective gear appropriately.
Qualifications
- Valid Iowa driver’s license and ability to operate all truck types, including manual transmissions.
- 2-5 years of diesel truck repair experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs, read technical manuals, and use mechanical and diagnostic tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and professional communication in English.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, with technical training or related experience preferred.
- Pre-employment drug test and ongoing random testing required.
