Diesel Mechanic Job Summary

Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on vehicles and equipment under general supervision.

  • Work under limited supervision, following written instructions and established procedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance services and repairs.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
  • Use vehicle computer systems to identify issues and initiate repairs.
  • Estimate repair time and material costs; requisition new parts as needed.
  • Perform all repairs within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Respond to emergency breakdown service calls.
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
  • Document repairs, parts usage, and time through fleet maintenance software.
  • Assist senior mechanics with project work.
  • Address issues identified in Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment, adhering to OSHA and company safety standards.

  • Education: None required.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and physical exam.
  • Frequent use of motor coordination and dexterity (e.g., operating machinery).
  • Physical effort required to handle objects most of the workday.
  • Regular exposure to occupational risks (e.g., cuts, burns, chemicals).
  • Work environment includes dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.
  • Typical setting: Repair/maintenance shop.
