Diesel Mechanic Job Summary
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on vehicles and equipment under general supervision.
- Work under limited supervision, following written instructions and established procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance services and repairs.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Use vehicle computer systems to identify issues and initiate repairs.
- Estimate repair time and material costs; requisition new parts as needed.
- Perform all repairs within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
- Respond to emergency breakdown service calls.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
- Document repairs, parts usage, and time through fleet maintenance software.
- Assist senior mechanics with project work.
- Address issues identified in Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment, adhering to OSHA and company safety standards.
- Education: None required.
- Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Able to meet the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and physical exam.
- Frequent use of motor coordination and dexterity (e.g., operating machinery).
- Physical effort required to handle objects most of the workday.
- Regular exposure to occupational risks (e.g., cuts, burns, chemicals).
- Work environment includes dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.
- Typical setting: Repair/maintenance shop.
