Position Overview
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing motor vehicle equipment. Typical tasks include oil changes, transmission/motor repairs, and other mechanic duties on cars, trucks, and semis. Candidates should work independently, manage time effectively, and report to the Anamosa, Iowa shop. Occasional use of the company vehicle to respond within a three-hour radius is required.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain vehicles including fleet cars, trucks, heavy equipment, industrial vacuum trucks, hydroblast pumps, tractor/trailers, and others.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance like oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Test parts and systems for proper operation.
  • Identify mechanical issues visually or with diagnostic tools.
  • Inspect critical parts using checklists.
  • Repair or replace malfunctioning parts such as brakes, belts, water pumps, and transmissions.
  • Plan and schedule repairs and maintenance.
  • Visit job sites to inspect vehicles within a three-hour radius.
  • Test drive vehicles to ensure safety and proper functioning.
  • Submit purchase orders for parts as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic.
  • Experience with vacuum trucks or water blasters.
  • Basic communication, organizational, and safety knowledge.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced, sometimes stressful environment.

  • 24/7 service availability; hours vary; overtime is common.

Training

  • Proof of OSHA 10-hour training within 60 days of employment.
