Job summary

Clearsite Industrial Services, based in Baltimore, MD, seeks a Hydrovac Diesel Mechanic to maintain diesel-powered hydrovac trucks and related heavy equipment. You will work with shop and field teams to ensure road and job-site readiness, focusing on engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.

The role emphasizes preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and timely repairs, with travel to job sites as needed and strong adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years hands-on heavy equipment or diesel truck repair experience.
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills in diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic scan tools and mechanical testing instruments for troubleshooting.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance and repairs with operations and field teams, including maintaining service records and inspection logs.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered hydrovac trucks, vacuum units, and related heavy equipment—including engines, transmissions, chassis, hydraulics, pneumatics, vacuum/blower systems, and electrical systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and services such as greasing, fluid checks, belt and hose replacements, alignments, adjustments, and comprehensive safety checks to ensure road and job-site readiness.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns both in the shop and in the field, respond to emergency service calls, and coordinate with field crews to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Maintain parts inventory and consumable supplies, ensure specialty tools are available, and schedule work orders with operations to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain accurate service records and inspection logs; support safety audits and regulatory inspections; stay current on OEM standards, diagnostic tools, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operate hand and power tools, welding equipment, hydraulic test benches, and diagnostic software; maintain a clean, safe, and orderly shop environment.
  • Occasionally travel to job sites and safely handle heavy components and work in confined or challenging conditions.

Based in Baltimore, Maryland, we operate a modern fleet of vacuum hydrovac trucks and serve as a trusted partner to our customers in the construction industry.
As a Hydrovac Diesel Mechanic, you will play a vital role in ensuring our specialized equipment is maintained to the highest standards, supporting field operations and contributing directly to our reputation for safe dig services. You will work closely with both shop and field teams to keep our trucks and heavy equipment operational and compliant.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Experience coordinating maintenance and repairs with operations and field teams, including maintaining service records and inspection logs
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on hydrovac/vacuum trucks or vacuum excavation equipment
  • Experience working on Freightliner trucks/chassis
  • Experience working on Allison transmissions
  • Knowledge of DOT compliance laws, rules, and regulations for commercial vehicles
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a CDL (Class B or higher)
  • Union wages: Competitive hourly compensation of $35.50 per hour or higher
