Job summary

CPKC is seeking a Diesel Mechanic (Machinist) to keep locomotives moving and communities connected. You will perform preventive and scheduled maintenance, interpret manuals, and apply mechanical skills to solve problems that keep freight flowing across the country.

The role emphasizes safety, precision and teamwork in a fast-paced environment, with opportunities for training and advancement within a major North American railroad. Training is provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Minimum 2 years of mechanical experience.
• Heavy duty diesel mechanics preferred.
• Available for nights, weekends and holidays.
• Able to read and understand safety instructions and English materials.
• Strong dedication to safety and ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, inspect, service, test and repair locomotive systems with precision and safety.
• Diagnose diesel engine issues and perform compliant repairs.
• Interpret blueprints, diagrams and service manuals to complete tasks.
• Evaluate parts to decide reuse, repair or replacement.
• Perform welding, adjustments and calibrations on mechanical components.
• Modify and assemble mechanical structures to meet requirements.
• Conduct low-voltage repairs on locomotive electrical systems.
• Service locomotive cabs and maintain a clean, safe operator environment.
• Operate overhead cranes, forklifts and hand tools safely to support maintenance.
