Job summary

CPKC is seeking a Diesel Mechanic (Machinist) in Port Arthur, TX to keep locomotives moving and communities connected. You will perform preventive and scheduled maintenance, diagnose engine issues, and apply technical skills to ensure safety and reliability across our rail network.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, and 2+ years of mechanical experience, with preference for heavy-duty diesel mechanics. Shift work including nights and weekends is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in mechanics
• Strong safety mindset and adherence to regulations
• Able to read and interpret safety instructions and manuals in English
• Willingness to work all shifts, including nights and holidays

Responsibilities

• Maintain, inspect, service, test, and repair locomotive systems with precision
• Diagnose diesel engine issues and perform repairs per standards
• Interpret blueprints and schematics to complete tasks
• Evaluate parts for reuse, repair, or replacement
• Perform welding, adjustments, and calibrations on mechanical components
• Assemble mechanical structures to meet requirements
• Conduct low-voltage repairs on locomotive electrical systems
• Service locomotive cabs ensuring a safe environment for operators
• Operate cranes and hand tools safely to support maintenance
