Job summary

CPKC is seeking a Diesel Mechanic (Machinist) in Pearl, Mississippi. The role focuses on keeping locomotives moving safely, performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs across mechanical and electrical systems.

Qualifications

• Must have reading comprehension of safety instructions, rules and regulations in English.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanics.
• Preference for heavy duty diesel mechanics.
• Ability to work all shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair locomotive systems with precision for safety and reliability.
• Diagnose diesel engine issues and perform repairs per regulatory standards.
• Interpret blueprints and service manuals to complete tasks efficiently.
• Evaluate parts to determine reuse, repair, or replacement for reliability.
• Perform welding, adjustments and calibrations on mechanical components.
• Assemble and modify mechanical structures to meet operational needs.
• Conduct low-voltage repairs on locomotive electrical systems.
• Service locomotive cabs, keeping areas clean and safe for operators.
• Operate overhead and mobile cranes, forklifts and tools safely.
