Job summary

BNSF Railway is seeking a Mechanical Department Mechanic Diesel Engine in Havre, MT. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing diesel engines for optimal performance and safety, with union guidelines and overtime considerations.

The position is full-time with 40 hours per week, and requires readiness for varied shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. Relocation is not offered; a 60-day probationary period for new hires and a 122-workday probationary period for apprentices apply.

Qualifications

• Able to work now and in the future without sponsorship in obtaining employment authorization.
• 18 years of age or older by the start date listed.
• Ability to report for duty at the designated work location.
• Able to work safely in the stated working conditions.
• Able to work the described shift/hours.
• Able to read, write and communicate English.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.
• Ability to visually distinguish colors (red, blue, green, yellow).
• Ability to differentiate verbal and non-verbal sounds and understand signals.
• Ability to use hands and hand tools to perform activities.
• Ability to climb ladders and get on/off equipment.
• Ability to bend, walk, stand, and sit occasionally with breaks.
• Follow safety policies and wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, and maintain engines and mechanical components of diesel locomotives.
• Test and restore brake systems, safety appliances, and associated systems.
• Install, disassemble, repair, or replace locomotive diesel engine components.
• Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance on tools and equipment and diagnose malfunctions.
