Job summary

NYSDOT is seeking a Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) to diagnose and repair complex automotive and diesel systems onsite. You will overhaul engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems, perform NYS inspections, and conduct road calls as needed.

The role requires 4+ years of hands-on repair experience, or completion of an approved diesel apprenticeship, or an associate degree in diesel/auto repair.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience diagnosing and repairing automotive/diesel systems.
• Or successful completion of the NYS Diesel Engine Mechanic apprenticeship.
• An Associate’s degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and correct faulty vehicle and equipment operation.
• Overhaul and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems.
• Perform NYS inspections and road calls as needed.
• Maintain repair schedules and parts stock using fleet software.
• Complete reports with parts catalogs; participate in emergency response when required.
