Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation is seeking an Auto Mechanic (Diesel) to overhaul diesel engines and related assemblies for diesel-powered vehicles. The role includes field troubleshooting, minor repairs, and ensuring vehicles return to service in a timely fashion.

Candidates must have five years of full-time diesel mechanic experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and must hold or obtain a NY Class B CDL.

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time experience as an auto mechanic specializing in diesel engine repair.
• Equivalent combination of related work experience and relevant education can be credited.
• Must possess NYS Class B CDL or equivalent license and learner's permit; must obtain CDL within six months.

Responsibilities

• Overhaul diesel engines, transmissions and fuel systems.
• Troubleshoot mechanical defects and perform minor repairs in the field.
• Return vehicles to operating condition in a timely manner.
• Supervise machinist helpers and automotive service workers as directed.
• Train assigned personnel in maintenance tasks and document work orders and inventories.
