Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a diesel repair and maintenance technician to service the agency's fleet and train inmate workers in automotive repair. This role involves diagnosing and repairing diesel-powered vehicles, inspecting equipment, and maintaining inventory.

Under general supervision, you will handle after-hours on-call recovery, supervise trainees, and ensure parts and tools are stocked. A four-week basic training program is required upon hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with five (5) years of extensive experience in repair and maintenance of diesel powered vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Experience with diesel powered vehicles and heavy equipment to diagnose and perform repairs/maintenance.
• Must obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs repair and maintenance service for agency's vehicle and equipment fleet.
• Inspects gasoline powered vehicles and equipment to assess the repair and maintenance needed.
• Supervises inmate worker and provides hands on training in the automotive repair field.
• Performs after hour vehicle recovery services on an on-call basis.
• Assists in maintaining tool, material, equipment and supply inventories at vehicle maintenance facility.
