Job summary

First Student in Tulare, CA is seeking a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair school buses for safety and reliability. This full-time, day-shift role runs Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 18:30, with year-round work and strong community impact.

You will work in a shop serving Tulare County Office of Education, with company-paid ASE training, CDL Class B licensing, comprehensive benefits, boot and safety glass allowances, and career advancement across more than 540 locations in the U.S.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of diesel or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or equivalent technical school education and experience.
• Vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment - Company-paid training provided.
• Possession of a mechanic's tool set to complete all duties.
• Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training and bonuses provided).
• Strong computer skills.
• DOT drug testing applies (safety-sensitive position).

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and perform brake repairs, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, and transmissions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections, complete work orders.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
