In this position, you will participate in a structured, progressive on-the-job training program. The training focuses on acquiring and applying a comprehensive set of skills related to the analysis, preventative maintenance, and repair of construction equipment, trucks, and automobiles that operate on gasoline or diesel engines. You will gain hands-on experience in maintaining and fixing equipment such as sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Your responsibilities will include diagnosing necessary repairs and assisting in the replacement of components like shock absorbers, transmissions, hour meters, clutches, and brakes. Additionally, you will help with wheel balancing and alignment checks, perform minor body repairs, and test, repair, or replace alternators and other electrical parts.
You will also be involved in preventative maintenance tasks for vehicles and equipment, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition. Your role will encompass automotive mechanical diagnostics, tune-ups, and tire changes, as well as the repair and replacement of engine subassemblies. You will adjust and repair various systems, including cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning components, while also maintaining fuel injection, brake, steering, and transmission systems. Furthermore, you will assist in the repair or rebuilding of construction or shop equipment.
As part of your duties, you will participate in official state inspections for safety and emissions on assigned vehicles, when applicable. This will involve performing necessary repairs to meet compliance standards, conducting road tests, completing inspection stickers, and affixing them to vehicles. You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate State Inspection Records and related documentation to ensure all inspections are properly recorded.
