Avera St Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD is seeking a Dialysis Technician to perform maintenance dialysis for patients with ESRD under RN supervision. You will operate water room equipment, test results, and ensure accurate documentation while maintaining patient safety.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED and CCHT or CHT certification within 1.5 years (NNCC or BONENT). Experience in dialysis or healthcare is preferred; schedule includes mornings with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED equivalent required.
  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) or Certified Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician (CHT) within 1.5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Performs dialysis treatments under RN direction, monitoring patient and equipment alarms.
  • Assembles and primes dialyzer, attaches tubing, and sets parameters per dialysis prescription.
  • Monitors vascular access function and reports signs of stenosis, occlusion, or infection.
  • Completes documentation of dialysis access and patient treatment.
  • Observes patient for adverse reactions and responds to dialysis-related emergencies.
  • Collaborates with patients, families, physicians, and other staff to ensure quality care.

Work where you matter.A Brief OverviewPerforms tasks contributing to performance of maintenance dialysis for patients with end stage renal disease, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. All facility staff must meet the personnel qualifications and demonstrated competencies necessary to serve collectively the comprehensive complex needs of the dialysis patient. Identifies intradialytic comorbidities and monitors patient and equipment alarms during treatment.What you will doUnderstands water room equipment operation and function; completes testing and follows up appropriately on abnormal results and completes required documentation.Completes dialysis treatments, initiation and discontinuation from internal accesses, monitoring of vascular access function and appropriately reports signs of stenosis, occlusion or infection to RN.Assembles and prepares necessary treatment supplies, rinses and primes dialyzer and attaches and installs all required tubing according to unit procedure. Test and set parameters according to dialysis prescription.Monitors equipment for safe and proper functioning, respond to alarms, and make appropriate adjustments; including blood flow rates and fluid removal ratesCompletes accurate documentation of dialysis access and patient treatment.Observes patient during treatments, notifies RN of any adverse reactions. Responds to dialysis –related emergencies, immediately seeking assistance from RN.Provides technical assistance to nurses and readily follows direction from nurses for hemodialysis treatments.Participates in collaboration with patients, family, physicians, other nursing staff and all ancillary departments.Essential QualificationsThe individual must be able to work the hours specified.
