Qualifications

  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) or Certified Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician (CHT) upon hire.
  • Ability to perform dialysis under RN supervision and monitor intradialytic events.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and test dialysis supplies, priming dialyzer and assembling tubing per unit procedure.
  • Monitor patient during dialysis, adjust blood flow and fluid removal per prescription.
  • Respond to alarms, document treatments, and report adverse reactions to RN.
  • Collaborate with nurses and other departments to support dialysis care.

Location: Avera Gregory Hospital Worker Type: PRN Work Shift: Primarily days with possible weekends/evenings/holidays (United States of America) Pay Range: The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience. $20.75 - $27.50

A Brief Overview

Performs technical skills related to fistulas, grafts and Central Venus Catheters (CVC) including initiation and termination of dialysis and dressing changes. Contributes to performance of maintenance dialysis for patients requiring hemodialysis, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Identifies intradialytic comorbidities and monitors patient and equipment alarms during treatment providing appropriate intervention. All facility staff must meet the qualifications and demonstrated competencies necessary to serve collectively the comprehensive complex needs of the dialysis patient.

What you will do

Understands water room equipment operation and function; completes testing and follows up appropriately on abnormal results and completes required documentation. Completes dialysis treatments, initiation and discontinuation from internal accesses and central lines, monitoring of vascular access function and appropriately reports signs of stenosis, occlusion or infection to RN. Use of aseptic technic to initiate and discontinue dialysis on stable patients utilizing CVC access. Performs aseptic CVC dressing change. Assembles and prepares necessary treatment supplies, rinses and primes dialyzer and attaches and installs all required tubing according to unit procedure. Tests and sets parameters according to dialysis prescription. Monitors equipment for safe and proper functioning, respond to alarms and make appropriate adjustments; including blood flow rates and fluid removal rates. Completes accurate documentation of dialysis access and patient treatment. Observes patient during treatments, notifies RN of any adverse reactions. Responds to dialysis-related emergencies, immediately seeking assistance from RN. Provides technical assistance to nurses and readily follows direction from nurses for hemodialysis treatments. Participates in collaboration with patients, family, physicians, other nursing staff and all ancillary departments.
