Job summary

Avera Health in Sioux Falls is seeking a Dialysis Technician to perform maintenance dialysis duties for ESRD patients under RN supervision. The role requires high school education and relevant certifications (CCHT/CHT) with dialysis/healthcare experience.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED equivalent required.
  • CCHT certification within 1-1/2 years.
  • CHT certification within 1-1/2 years.
  • Dialysis experience or healthcare experience considered.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies intradialytic comorbidities and monitors patient and equipment alarms during treatment.
  • Understands water room equipment operation and function; completes testing and follows up on abnormal results and documentation.
  • Completes dialysis treatments, initiation and discontinuation from internal accesses, and monitors vascular access function.
  • Assembles and prepares treatment supplies, rinses and primes dialyzer and attaches tubing according to unit procedure.
  • Tests and sets parameters according to dialysis prescription.
  • Monitors equipment for safe functioning, responds to alarms, and adjusts as needed (blood flow rates, fluid removal).
  • Completes accurate documentation of dialysis access and patient treatment.
  • Observes patient during treatments and notifies RN of adverse reactions.
  • Responds to dialysis-related emergencies, seeking RN assistance as needed.
  • Provides technical assistance to nurses and follows directions for hemodialysis treatments.
  • Collaborates with patients, family, physicians, nursing staff and ancillary departments.

Location: Avera Dialysis-Sioux Falls Worker Type: Regular Work Shift: Primarily days with rotating weekends and holidays (United States of America) Pay Range: The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience. $19.75 - $33.75 Position Highlights May be eligible for $2,000-$4,000 sign on bonus! 72hrs/2wks including every other Saturday

A Brief Overview Performs tasks contributing to performance of maintenance dialysis for patients with end stage renal disease, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. All facility staff must meet the personnel qualifications and demonstrated competencies necessary to serve collectively the comprehensive complex needs of the dialysis patient.

What you will do
  • Identifies intradialytic comorbidities and monitors patient and equipment alarms during treatment.
  • Understands water room equipment operation and function; completes testing and follows up appropriately on abnormal results and completes required documentation.
  • Completes dialysis treatments, initiation and discontinuation from internal accesses, monitoring of vascular access function and appropriately reports signs of stenosis, occlusion or infection to RN.
  • Assembles and prepares necessary treatment supplies, rinses and primes dialyzer and attaches and installs all required tubing according to unit procedure.
  • Test and set parameters according to dialysis prescription.
  • Monitors equipment for safe and proper functioning, respond to alarms, and make appropriate adjustments; including blood flow rates and fluid removal rates.
  • Completes accurate documentation of dialysis access and patient treatment.
  • Observes patient during treatments, notifies RN of any adverse reactions.
  • Responds to dialysis–related emergencies, immediately seeking assistance from RN.
  • Provides technical assistance to nurses and readily follows direction from nurses for hemodialysis treatments.
  • Participates in collaboration with patients, family, physicians, other nursing staff and all ancillary departments.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
  • High School or GED Equivalent
  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) within 1-1/2 Yrs
  • Certified Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician (CHT) - Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) within 1-1/2 Yrs
  • Dialysis experience or healthcare experience
