Job summary

Fresenius Medical Care in Spokane, WA seeks a Dialysis Patient Care Technician to join the dialysis health care team. Under RN supervision, you will set up and operate hemodialysis machines, educate patients on adequacy measures, and maintain a safe treatment environment.

You will perform pre/post-treatment assessments, monitor patients, document vitals and treatment data, and participate in CQI activities to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred.
• CPR certification / training may be required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist other health care members in providing patient-specific education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease processes.
• Welcome assigned patients and check wellbeing since last treatment.
• Evaluate vascular access patency and cannulation; administer heparin as delegated or allowed by state law.
• Record pre- and post-treatment vitals and weight; initiate dialysis per orders (QB, QD).
• Monitor and respond to intradialytic issues; monitor patient response to therapy.
• Complete documentation of treatment, signs, and lab specimens; ensure safety alarms and proper setup.
• Maintain infection control practices and environmental hygiene; prepare initial patient charts and labs.
• Assist in Transitional Care Unit coordination and patient education on home dialysis options.
• Ensure compliance with CQI activities and regulatory requirements.
