Job summary

Fresenius Medical Care in Idaho seeks a dialysis patient care technician to join the team. You will assist in the safe setup and operation of hemodialysis machines and support a clean, safe treatment environment under RN supervision.

The role emphasizes patient education, vital signs, vascular access assessment, and adherence to CQI processes to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction. Training and policy compliance are required.

Responsibilities

• Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing since their last treatment.
• Evaluate vascular access for patency, perform cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated or as allowed by state law.
• Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight; perform pre-treatment vascular access evaluation.
• Initiate dialysis treatment per orders including QB and QD.
• Monitor patient response to dialysis therapy and intervene as prescribed.
• Record vital signs, treatment parameters, and progress in Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with identification.
• Discontinue dialysis per procedures and evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access.
• Apply dressings and manage hemostasis after cannulation.
• Document patient discharge evaluation and prep for discharge.
• Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for UF goal, treatment time, and UF modeling.
• Ensure safety alarms are enabled and report any unusual findings to RN or supervisor.
• Record and report all significant information regarding patient condition to supervising staff.
• Observe machine safety and conduct checks; document interventions as needed.
• Monitor arterial and venous pressures and interventions during treatment; document findings.
• Collect, label, and prepare lab specimens; ensure proper storage and transport.
• Maintain environmental safety, cleanliness, and proper waste management.
• Assist in training direct patient care staff under RN supervision.
