Job description

Summary

Employees at this grade are fully functional as an advanced DRT and carry out their assigned tasks independently for Radiology Service at Chalmer's P. Wylie VAACC in Columbus, Ohio. About 75% of the employee's tour of duty is spent in MRI performing complex examinations. DRTs at this level may have varying assignments, including special and complex imaging procedures and basic Quality Management duties within the program. Must be certified for MRI. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus) available.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Certification: Must be certified in general radiologic technology and MRI by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments including CT, MRI, or Mammography duties performed independently.
  • Education: Completion of a 24-month full-time training course or the equivalent in a JRCERT-accredited diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree.
  • English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of Current Radiologic Technology Practice: Demonstrated by at least one year of active practice as a DRT, paid or unpaid, after certification.
  • Quality of Experience: Experience must have been earned after basic certification; graduate DRT experience is creditable if the candidate functioned as a DRT and passed the certification exam.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Requires additional knowledge of superconducting magnets, safety, cross-sectional anatomy, radio-frequency coils, contrast media, power injectors, and PACS.
Grade Determinations (GS-9):
  • Experience: At least one year of experience at the next lower grade level demonstrating necessary clinical competencies.
  • Assignments: Tasks involve significant scope, complexity, and variety, performed independently at least 25% of the time.
  • Technical KSAs: Ability to balance patient and staff needs, gather relevant information, assess contraindications, knowledge of first aid and life support, physical assessment, aseptic techniques, and patient care before, during, and after procedures.
Preferred Experience:

MRI Registered. References: VA Handbook 5005/119 Part II, Appendix G25, 12/2019.

Physical Requirements:

Heavy lifting and carrying over 45 pounds, straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, bending, rapid coordination, near vision, hearing.
