Summary
Employees at this level are fully functional as an advanced DRT Radiology Service and can carry out their assigned tasks independently at Chalmer's P. Wylie VAACC in Columbus, Ohio. DRTs at this level may have various assignments, including special and complex radiographic procedures. They perform radiologic exams ordered by medical providers, which are used to diagnose medical conditions as part of an overall patient care plan. They work under the direction of the Chief of Radiology.

Basic Requirements:- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Certification: All candidates must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (CT) after completing a full-time 24-month training course or an equivalent post-high school program.
- English Language Proficiency: Completion of 1 year of progressively complex experience directly related to the position being filled, demonstrating knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics.
- For GS-09: Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level and directly related to the position.
- Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Ability to check system operation and assess performance, knowledge of calibration parameters, understanding of patient's clinical records, monitoring physiologic changes, tact and courtesy, knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and recognition of unusual images.
Duties
- Maintains knowledge of appropriate positioning, including knowledge of VISTA and CT management software to perform specific exams.
- Enters exam data into computer with standard digital settings, views, and transfers images.
- Manages troubleshooting operations and manual override procedures to complete scans.
- Uses appropriate PPE and infection control precautions.
- Operates computerized and digital radiography equipment, determines technical factors, and ensures correct exposures.
- Sets up and adjusts accessory equipment, ensures ALARA principles, and shields patients when possible.
- Performs procedures in collaboration with radiologists, such as IVP, urethrograms, G.I. series, modified barium swallow, and air contrast barium enemas.
- Prepares sterile supplies and contrast materials, reviews new developments, and maintains equipment.
- Processes radiographs, manages PACS duties, and verifies patient information.
- Assesses contraindications and patient safety factors.
- May provide basic first aid and life support, and applies knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic technique, and IV methods.
- Participates in departmental meetings, acts as a subject matter expert, and may represent the department at higher-level meetings.
- Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 am - 6:30 pm. Not available for telework or virtual work.
