Summary
This position is located at a VA Community Based Clinic in Wilmington, NC. The Technologist performs duties in Mammography and Diagnostic exams independently, responsible for the performance and coordination of all exams. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Qualifications
Applicants pending educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA Policy.
- Certification: Must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R).
- Advanced ARRT certification is required for CT and MRI.
- Education: Completion of a 24-month full-time training course in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
- Credentialing Standards: Must meet standards in 42 CFR Part 75, with successful completion of an accredited educational program and certification as radiographers.
Grade Determinations:
GS-09: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-08, providing radiologic services independently, including checking systems, calibration, monitoring patient changes, and utilizing knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Work involves physical exertion: standing, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting over 45 pounds.
- Visual acuity 20/50 or better, ability to distinguish colors, mental and emotional stability, and hearing ability.
Duties
- Maintain control of the mammography area, coordinate, plan, and organize workflow.
- Perform diagnostic and mammography exams, schedule patients, and maintain logs.
- Position patients, explain procedures, and assist radiologists with special tests.
- Operate and adjust radiography equipment, perform QC procedures, and ensure compliance with standards.
- Create, implement, and manage mammography documentation and reports, submit updates to ACR, and ensure licensing compliance.
- Recognize anatomy and pathology, keep abreast of technological advances, and maintain certifications.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, provide reports and proposals for improvements, and assist with complex procedures.
- Troubleshoot equipment, coordinate image movements, and manage image dispatches and logs.
- Explain exams to patients, monitor vital signs if needed, and interpret radiology requests.
- Input data into RIS, generate reports, validate patient information, and ensure proper film identification.
- Perform other duties as assigned, with a work schedule Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
