Summary
This position is located at a VA Community Based Clinic in Wilmington, NC. The Technologist performs all duties related to Mammography and Diagnostic exams. The incumbent operates independently, responsible for the performance and coordination of all exams. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies to facilitate proper diagnosis and treatment.

Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens are unavailable, per VA Policy.
- Certification: Must be certified in general radiologic technology by the ARRT (R).
- Advanced ARRT certification is required for CT and MRI.
- Education: Completion of a 24-month full-time training course or equivalent in a JRCERT-accredited diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree.
- Credentialing Standards: Must meet standards in 42 CFR Part 75, including successful completion of an accredited educational program and certification as a radiographer.
- Grade Determinations: GS-09 requires at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-08, including independent radiologic services and handling complex issues.
- Physical Requirements: Include periods of standing, walking, bending, carrying, and visual and auditory requirements.
Duties
- Maintain effective control of the mammography area, coordinating and organizing workflow.
- Perform diagnostic and mammography exams, schedule patients, and maintain logs.
- Position patients, explain procedures, and assist radiologists with special tests.
- Operate radiography equipment, perform complex radiographic examinations, and conduct quality control procedures.
- Create and manage mammography documentation, ensure compliance with standards, and submit updates to accreditation bodies.
- Recognize anatomy and pathology, keep abreast of technological advances, and maintain certifications.
- Ensure cleanliness, provide reports and proposals for improvements, and assist with complex procedures.
- Monitor equipment, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate image movements.
- Maintain logs, explain exams to patients, and monitor vital signs if necessary.
- Input and manage radiology data electronically, generate reports, and communicate results to patients and physicians.
- Properly identify patient films, ensure correct display, and perform other assigned duties.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
