Job description

This position is located at a VA Community Based Clinic in Wilmington, NC. The Technologist performs duties in the Mammography and Diagnostic exams. The incumbent operates independently without direct supervision and is responsible for the performance and coordination of all exams. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic studies for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for CT and MRI. Certification indicates demonstrated clinical competency and passing the designated examination.
  • Education: Completion of a 24-month full-time training course or equivalent in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
  • Credentialing Standards: Must meet standards in 42 CFR Part 75, certified as radiographers, and have completed an accredited educational program.

Grade Determinations: GS-09:

In addition to basic requirements, applicants need at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-08, providing radiologic services independently, with occasional oversight for complex issues. Examples include system checks, calibration, monitoring patient changes, and proper positioning.

Physical Requirements:

Work involves standing, walking, bending, pulling, pushing, using fingers, reaching, carrying, lifting, reading printed materials, visual acuity of 20/50, color distinction, hearing conversational voice, and mental stability.
