Job description

Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist-Computed Tomography

Join to apply for the Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist-Computed Tomography role at VA Detroit.

Summary: The incumbent's principal responsibilities are to perform Computed Tomography (CT) exams for the patients of the Minneapolis, MN VA Medical Center.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Perform CT examinations of the chest, abdomen, pelvis, head, extremities, neck, etc.
  • Assist the radiologist in fluoroscopy exams under CT guidance.
  • Work rotating holidays, take call if applicable, and vary shifts between days, evenings, nights, weekends, and weekdays.
  • Work independently with good time management skills.
  • Transfer patients safely, prepare rooms and equipment, and handle contrast materials.
  • Follow protocols, observe patients, and report complications.
  • Transfer images to PACS, perform QA/QC, and handle related computer work.
  • Administer contrast under radiologist supervision, adjust equipment, and maximize patient throughput.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and supplies.
  • Provide training to students and residents.
  • Practice safety protocols including radiation safety, infection control, and universal precautions.
  • Ensure image quality and maintain workstations.
  • Educate patients and families on procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Tuesday-Friday, 11:30 am - 10:00 pm.

Additional Details: Not virtual, no telework, may be eligible for relocation incentives, no PCS authorized.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen, proficiency in English, background/security investigation, and compliance with VA policies.
  • Certification in radiologic technology by ARRT, with advanced certification in CT for independent practice.
  • Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program.
  • Physical requirements as per VA directives.
Qualifications

Basic requirements include U.S. citizenship, ARRT certification, accredited education, and physical and language proficiency. Grade determination at GS-9 level requires one year of experience at the next lower grade, demonstrating clinical competencies, and knowledge, skills, and abilities including complex scan performance and patient management.
