Summary
Recruitment/Relocation Incentives May Be Authorized For Highly Qualified Candidates. Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists at this level perform a full range of physiological and radiological duties in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments involving computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) performed independently.
- Education: Completion of a 24-month full-time training course in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
- Credentialing Standards: Must meet standards in 42 CFR Part 75, including certification as radiographers. Exception for Non-Certified - Entry Level Candidates: Non-certified candidates meeting ARRT requirements may be temporarily appointed as graduate DRTs for up to two years.
- Physical Requirements: Must be proficient in spoken and written English. May qualify under the Grandfathering Provision if applicable.
Grade Determinations:
- GS-5: None beyond basic requirements.
- GS-6: At least one year of experience or equivalent to one academic year of graduate education in radiography. Demonstrates knowledge of basic technique standards, anatomy, patient safety, and radiographic equipment.
- GS-7: At least one year of experience demonstrating clinical competencies or equivalent graduate education or certification. Demonstrates knowledge of digital imaging, contrast materials, radiation protection, and PACS.
- GS-8: At least one year of experience demonstrating advanced competencies, including system operation, calibration, patient record review, and ability to monitor physiologic changes. Must demonstrate all KSAs listed.
Physical requirements include participation in pre-employment examinations. Questions regarding physical demands or environmental factors will be addressed during evaluation.
Duties
- Provides patient care in radiology, including explaining procedures, positioning, and equipment adjustments.
- Collaborates with cardiologists to establish exam requirements, positioning, and technical factors.
- Performs equipment adjustments, preventative maintenance, and recognizes emergencies.
- Maintains records, ensures radiation safety, and keeps current on continuing education and CPR.
- Participates in ongoing development and recommends improvements.
- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm, with on-call rotation.
