Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist-Computed Tomography

Job Summary

The incumbent's principal responsibilities are to perform Computed Tomography (CT) exams for the patients of the Minneapolis, MN VA Medical Center.

Duties
  • Perform CT examinations of the chest, abdomen, pelvis, head, extremities, neck, etc.
  • Assist radiologists in fluoroscopy exams under CT guidance.
  • Work rotating holidays, take call if applicable, and vary shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and weekdays.
  • Transfer patients from stretcher or wheelchair to radiographic table.
  • Prepare room, equipment, and materials needed for procedures.
  • Prepare oral and injectable contrast as necessary.
  • Follow prescribed protocols for procedures.
  • Observe patients during procedures and report complications or unusual events.
  • Transfer images successfully to PACS and perform related computer work.
  • Perform QA/QC of scanners and maintain work stations.
  • Administer contrast material under radiologist supervision.
  • Adjust equipment settings as needed.
  • Maximize patient throughput by coordinating with staff and patients.
  • Maintain a clean and stocked work environment.
  • Train student radiographers and residents.
  • Practice safety, radiation safety, infection control, and universal precautions at all times.
  • Ensure image quality prior to transmission to PACS.
  • Provide patient and family education on imaging procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule

Tuesday-Friday, 11:30 am - 10:00 pm.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. Citizen, proficient in English, pass background/security checks, and meet physical and educational requirements, including ARRT certification in radiologic technology and advanced certification in CT for certain duties.

Qualifications

Basic requirements include certification by ARRT, completion of an accredited radiologic technology program, and meeting physical and language proficiency standards. Experience at the GS-9 level requires one year of related experience demonstrating clinical competencies, including complex imaging procedures and patient care skills.
