Job summary
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a Diagnostic Instrumentation Specialist to advance beam diagnostics hardware and integration in accelerator control systems. You will help develop, deploy, and maintain diagnostic tools for the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) and participate in lab-wide R&D programs.
Your role includes designing diagnostics systems, benchmarking physics applications, and contributing to machine development studies, with occasional shift work and possible hybrid work
Qualifications
- PhD in physics, computer science, mathematics, engineering or related field with minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with industrial or laboratory particle accelerator systems.
- Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
Responsibilities
- Support LCLS accelerator diagnostics systems development, deployment, and operations.
- Collaborate in beam diagnostics and instrumentation R&D programs to enable next generation operation modes.
- Provide design requirements and performance metrics for new diagnostics systems.
- Proficient operation of EPICS-based controls and GUI tools in MATLAB/Python.
- Participate in commissioning and machine development activities; prepare operator training.
