Job summary

UP Health System Marquette, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks a Diabetes Educator to join our team. This role is 0.7 FTE (56 hours per pay period) with 7 eight-hour shifts from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, based at our Marquette, MI campus.

The Diabetes Educator will independently teach patients and families, support outpatient education, manage diabetes supplies, and collaborate with the care team. Requires nursing or dietetics degree, BLS-HCP, and CDE within 2 years of hire.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Nursing OR Bachelor's degree in Dietetics required.
• BLS-HCP certification required.
• Registered Dietitian Certification OR RN required.
• Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) within 2 years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Independently writes, communicates, and implements teaching interventions for patients and families.
• Delivers educational material for pediatric inpatients and outpatients in group and individual sessions.
• Delivers material appropriate for identified needs using growth and development knowledge.
• Maintains diabetes supplies.
• Provides back up and assists other staff as necessary.

How You'll Contribute

A Diabetes Educator who excels in this role:

• Independently writes, communicates, and implements teaching interventions for patients, families, significant others.
• Delivers educational material using teaching principals and a variety of formats for new pediatric inpatients and outpatients in group and individual sessions.
• Delivers educational material appropriate for identified needs utilizing knowledge of growth and development for outpatients in group and individual sessions.
• Assists to maintain diabetes supplies.
• Provides back up and assists other staff, as necessary.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum Education Associate's Degree in Nursing OR Bachelor's degree in Dietetics
• *Years of relevant experience may be substituted for required education.
• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP);
• Registered Dietitian Certification OR Registered Nurse (RN);
• Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) (within 2 years of hire)
