The New York Botanical Garden seeks a Dia Family Programs Supervisor for the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden. This seasonal, part-time role supports family programming and Explainer development, working weekends/holidays September through June.

You will mentor Explainers, oversee exhibits, and ensure high-quality public offerings, coordinating with staff and volunteers in outdoor settings.

Qualifications

• Completed degree in education, museum studies or natural sciences
• Must have prior experience teaching in an informal outdoor setting with various audiences, specifically children and families
• Previous customer service experience required, managerial experience a plus
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be very organized
• Must have strong leadership qualities and be able to foster an atmosphere of teamwork and positivity amongst Children’s Adventure Garden Explainers

Responsibilities

• Directly facilitate or assist and mentor Children’s Adventure Garden staff and volunteers with implementation of plant-science based educational activities, including supporting the staff Explainers in facilitating mentor meetings with Advanced Explainers.
• Ensure excellent and safe customer service experience for all Children’s Adventure Garden’s Pop Up Space guests.
• Monitor flow of visitors and direct crowds as needed.
• Reset outdoor exhibits and restock/ inventory educational program materials at activity stations and in storage.
• Oversee breakdown and proper clean‑up of activity stations.

Dia Family Programs Supervisor

Position Summary

This is a seasonal position. The New York Botanical Garden’s Everett Children’s Adventure Garden (ECAG) - a 12 acre outdoor science museum for children seeks Family Programs Supervisor to assist in the successful implementation of our Family Programming and supporting Explainers in this goal. The Supervisor will assist with the implementation of Family Program activities, and will assist full time staff to oversee explainers and facilities during weekend/holiday hours. The Supervisor will work with other staff and volunteers to guarantee high quality public offerings, and is required to work weekends and holidays/school breaks from September through June. An aspect of this position involves supporting Advanced Explainers in science teaching skills and career development with the Master and Senior Explainers.

Physical Demand & Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. The employee may be required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Schedule

• This is a temporary, part‑time position anticipated to run through June.
• Schedule: Saturday or Sunday, from 9:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Rate

• $28 per hour
