Qualifications

• Proven Python backend development experience.
• Experience building backend systems, automation, microservices and APIs.
• Extensive AWS experience, especially EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch and Lambda.
• Experience with AWS SDKs (boto3 or aws-sdk-go).
• Experience with Kubernetes and Kubernetes APIs.
• Experience with HashiCorp Vault and secret management.
• Experience with LDAP/OpenLDAP/Active Directory.
• Experience integrating with Jira and Confluence.
• Strong Git experience.
• Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Python testing frameworks (pytest/unittest).

Our client is delivering a major technology transformation programme supporting critical UK government services used by staff across the UK and internationally, as well as millions of applicants accessing immigration and related services.

As part of a large-scale cloud and platform engineering environment, they are looking for a DevOps Engineer / Python Specialist to develop automation, backend services and integrations supporting a modern, highly scalable technology platform.

THE DEVOPS ENGINEER – PYTHON SPECIALIST ROLE:

As a DevOps Engineer with strong Python development experience, you will build and maintain backend systems, automation tools, microservices and APIs within a large-scale cloud platform.

You will work across AWS, Kubernetes, Vault, LDAP and development tooling, creating secure and reliable automation while contributing to CI/CD pipelines and engineering standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Developing Python-based backend systems, automation tools, microservices and APIs
• Developing efficient, concurrent applications and services using Go/Golang
• Using AWS SDKs including boto3 and aws-sdk-go-v2
• Automating AWS infrastructure and cloud resource management
• Working with EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch and Lambda
• Building integrations with LDAP, Active Directory, HashiCorp Vault, JIRA and Confluence
• Working with the Kubernetes API to automate deployments, manage pods and interrogate clusters
• Developing automated testing using pytest, unittest and mocking frameworks
• Writing Go unit and integration tests
• Working with Git branching, code reviews and release workflows
• Integrating testing, linting and quality controls into CI/CD pipelines
• Applying modern Python development practices including asyncio, type hints and context managers

DEVOPS ENGINEER – PYTHON SPECIALIST ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

• Strong Python development experience
• Experience building backend systems, automation, microservices and APIs
• Strong Go/Golang development experience
• Extensive experience with AWS, particularly EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch and Lambda
• Experience using boto3 and/or AWS SDK for Go
• Experience with Kubernetes and Kubernetes APIs
• Experience with HashiCorp Vault and secure secrets management
• Experience with LDAP / OpenLDAP / Active Directory
