Job description

As a DevOps Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to support the development, integration, and administration of systems that configure and automate software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and tools across both IT and Engineering. These include—but are not limited to—development environments, requirements management, version control, verification, build and release, and KPI reporting. As these systems mature, you will also support their governance, maintenance, and deployment to other applicable engineering and IT domains.

In the Role of DevOps Engineer:
  • You will collaborate with IT and Engineering management to improve processes and tools that support the SDLC, driving faster delivery cycles and higher product quality
  • You will assist in designing, documenting, and implementing DevOps/SDLC systems proposals, specifications, and designs for review by peers, Engineering, and IT management
  • You will contribute to the development and deployment of SDLC systems for use by software engineering and IT disciplines
  • You will work with IT and Engineering teams to host and administer all development environments, automation, and tooling
  • You will contribute to usage documentation and provide support for training materials to ensure effective use of DevOps and SDLC systems
The Skills You Need to Succeed:
  • You must be a strong communicator and technical writer as you will be collaborating closely with a variety of internal stakeholders and producing specifications, design documents and usage guides
  • You must be able to plan your work, present plans for review, and be able to execute given high-level direction and minimum supervision.
  • You must have significant past experience developing new CI/CD systems or extending existing systems.
  • You must have the ability to learn new technologies quickly as you will be integrating various systems implemented with different technologies.
  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise implementing CI/CD systems with as many of the following DevOps-related technologies as possible:
Technology Proficiency:
  • Development environment automation and management, including VMware
  • Infrastructure as code tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt, and others
  • Version control, package management, and build systems like Git/Bitbucket, Conan, and CMake
  • Verification tools, including security scanners (e.g., Black Duck) and testing frameworks (e.g., GoogleTest, Smart Bear Test Complete)
  • Defect management tools, particularly JIRA (workflow development and/or XRAY experience is a strong plus)
Education and Experience of a Successful Candidate:
  • A 4-year degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
  • A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in software development, DevOps engineering, or related technical roles.
