Job summary

Relay, a Raleigh, NC-based tech startup, seeks a Software Engineering Intern for the Device Team for Summer 2027. You will work on Android-based hardware-software integration across the full device stack, from Android apps to embedded firmware.

The internship is paid, with potential for full-time roles after graduation, depending on business needs. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a fast-growing environment, collaborating with engineers on custom communication devices, Linux-based toolchains,

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in CS or related technical field with GPA 3.5+.
Strong proficiency in C, Java, or Kotlin.
Experience with Linux systems programming and Android is a plus.
Embedded systems experience with NRF/ST-based products or Zephyr/ThreadX/Linux.
Scripting in Bash or Python is a plus.
Familiarity with networking concepts and Linux-based development environments.

Responsibilities

Develop Android-based software for Relay's custom devices across multiple layers (Android, Linux OS, embedded).
Contribute to hardware-software integration and device firmware updates roughly every 6 weeks.
Collaborate across teams to deliver features from kickoff to final delivery.
Learn and apply Linux-based development workflows and internal tooling.
