Developmental Internship: Strategy and Operations

Uplift is a nonprofit organization serving returning citizens in Pennsylvania. Our vision is to create a world in which all people have paths to meaningful opportunities, where barriers to reentry do not exist. Our mission is to reduce the barriers for justice involved people, helping them find pathways to long-term success.

Our work has helped hundreds of returning citizens find gainful employment and successfully navigate challenges and begin successful lives. We offer life skills training, at-risk youth support, workforce development programs for careers in retail, HVAC and CDL, and are continually working to expand our programmatic offerings. We regularly host record clearing clinics, organize community engagement events, and collaborate with ecosystem partners to develop new ways to set our community up for success. To fully implement our mission, we work to expand our offerings so that Uplift can have maximum impact. We are committed to scaling our programs to expand opportunities for Pennsylvanian residents to benefit from our work.

Who We’re Looking For

This is a demanding, high-responsibility role best suited for an individual looking to build their professional standing . Program Associates at Uplift lead substantial work, manage complex tasks, and directly shape program development and organizational strategy. If you cannot independently manage projects, produce polished work under deadlines, or juggle multiple priorities, you should not apply.

You should apply only if you confidently meet all of the following qualifications:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills: You must be able to write professionally, clearly, and quickly.
  • Strong research and analytical abilities: You will be expected to synthesize information, draw conclusions, and present findings.
  • Proven organizational skills: You must be able to manage detailed timelines, deadlines, and deliverables without reminders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively: You must be comfortable conducting work and making progress without constant direction.
  • Proficiency in SharePoint, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • High professionalism, reliability, and follow-through: If you struggle with consistency, responsiveness, or accountability, this role will not be manageable.
What We Provide
  • Major, meaningful project work; You will lead or co-lead core components of program design, implementation, and evaluation that prepare you for careers in workforce development, nonprofit management and social entrepreneurship.
  • Flexible schedule within agreed-upon hours; You can propose work hours but must reliably meet deadlines, attend meetings, and maintain consistent weekly availability.
  • Professional development and coaching; You will receive direct, candid feedback from senior leadership. You must be able to accept critique and adjust your work quickly and accurately.
  • Networking opportunities; You will interact with community partners, stakeholders, and nonprofit leaders. You must be comfortable representing Uplift professionally.
  • Optional opportunities to observe programs and attend events; These require maturity, discretion, and respect for the communities we serve.

  • Lead or co-lead research, design, and evaluation of new and existing programs
  • Create, manage, and monitor detailed project timelines
  • Coordinate and execute events (conferences, workshops, record-clearing clinics) and cross-organizational initiatives
  • Prepare written reports, slide decks, and briefing materials that summarize findings and provide recommendations
  • Manage and organize internal and participant data with accuracy and confidentiality
  • Conduct outreach to partner organizations, nonprofits, and employers
