Job summary

Saicon is seeking an engineering professional in Auburn Hills, MI to lead engine/PT dynamometer or vehicle-based testing activities and drive emissions system development. You will manage projects to deliver results, optimize calibrations, and coordinate with technicians and engineers across teams.

The role requires 2 years of systems-level engineering experience, ABET-accredited engineering degree, and strong skills in data acquisition, analysis, and communication.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited B.S. in Automotive, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical/Computer Engineering.
  • 2 years of systems-level engineering experience with hardware, controls, or calibration development.
  • Experience analyzing emissions test cycles and test cell environments.
  • Understanding of combustion processes, engine hardware, thermal systems, OBD, and electrified propulsion.
  • Ability to identify root causes and refine calibrations to improve emissions performance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and schedule day-to-day testing activities for engine/PT dynamometers or vehicle-based testing.
  • Apply project management methodologies to achieve deliverables using MS Project and Excel.
  • Develop emissions-system solutions for future powertrains with cost, performance, and regulatory considerations.
  • Optimize engine and emissions calibration to fit new hardware.
  • Investigate competitor emission systems to compare performance and regulatory strategies.
  • Direct multiple technology development projects with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Plan and analyze complex powertrain problems to meet performance, emissions, diagnostics, NVH, and fuel-economy goals.
  • Ensure integration of emissions system components and communicate requirements to engineering teams.

Job description

  • Direct and schedule day-to-day activities of engine/PT dynamometer or vehicle-based testing, including interaction with technicians and support engineers.
  • Apply appropriate procedures and methodologies for project management to reach project deliverables, utilizing tools such as MS Project and Excel.
  • Develop emissions systems solutions for future high efficiency powertrains, considering system trade-offs for cost, performance, complexity, etc., while meeting all quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Optimize and adjust the calibration of the engine and emissions system to fit new emissions hardware.
  • Investigate competitor vehicles’ emission systems to assess performance, identify differences, and understand strategies to meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
  • Define and direct multiple technology development projects internally and at suppliers to meet the critical needs of the emissions system.
  • Plan, test, analyze, and solve complex system problems related to the entire powertrain system to meet key objectives such as performance, emissions, diagnostics, NVH, quality, and fuel economy.
  • Ensure proper integration of emissions system components through communication of emissions system and component level functional requirements to Powertrain engineering and management teams.

Mandatory Skills:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Automotive, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical/Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 2 years of accumulated experience and systems level engineering skills with hardware, controls, or calibration development in relevant areas.
  • Experience analyzing and running various emissions global test cycles and test cell environments, and using common powertrain data acquisition systems.
  • Working understanding of key combustion processes, engine hardware, thermal system, transmission system, OBD system, and electrified propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of interactions and trade-offs between emissions, OBD, fuel economy, cost, drivability, and NVH.
  • Ability to quickly identify, root cause, and refine calibrations to improve emissions system performance and provide simple explanations of complex systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills to overcome obstacles.
  • Ability to effectively operate both independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
